(SRHR)
Women’s sexual and reproductive health is related to multiple human rights, including the right to life, the right to be free from torture, the right to health, the right to privacy, the right to education, and the prohibition of discrimination.Violations of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights are often due to deeply engrained beliefs and societal values pertaining to women’s sexuality.
Causes and consequences of sexual and reproductive health violations
Good sexual and reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system. It implies that people have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so. To maintain one’s sexual and reproductive health, people need access to accurate information. They must be informed and empowered to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections. And when they decide to have children, women must have access to skilled health care providers and services that can help them have a fit pregnancy, safe birth and healthy baby. Every individual has the right to make their own choices about their sexual and reproductive health. BSI, together with a wide range of partners, works toward the goal of universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is both a fundamental human right and a critical development issue. At its most foundational level, SRH is about safeguarding women’s agency over their individual sexuality and fertility, including autonomous decisions over whether to have children, how many children to have, with whom and the timing of each pregnancy.
The Opportunity
The Kenyan Constitution affirms that “every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of health, which includes the right to health care services, including reproductive health care”.Bsi supports the full suite of women’s and girls’ SRH rights as envisaged in the Constitution.
We work to reduce teenage pregnancies, and the elimination of Gbv. Among other interventions, increasing the coverage, quality and effectiveness. We challenge inequitable gender and social norms that disempower women and amplifying women’s and girl’s participation in socio-economic and political processes.
